P. multiflorum is a perennial flowering vine native to southwestern China, Japan, and Korea and commonly called fleeceflower and Chinese knotweed. P. multiflorum is one of the most popular herbs in oriental folk medicine, used as a health tonic to increase longevity and as a remedy to treat various health conditions. Recent study showed the promoting activity of hair growth by inducing the anagen phase in mice. It was reported that P. multiflorum promotes cellular anti-oxidant activity and protects against free radical damage induced by ultraviolet B irradiation of the skin. Also in several studies, it is identified that P. multiflorum was effective against free radical damage induced by UVB radiation on the skin and hair growth effects.
