Centella asiatica, commonly known as Gotu kola, is a medicinal herb widely used in Traditional Oriental Medicine as well as in Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of skin diseases and wound healing. According to folklore, an injured tiger often rolls against C. asiatica for wound healing. Because of this, C. asiatica is well known as a tiger’s herb in Asia. Scientific studies reported that topical application of C. asiatica on the wounded area increased the rate of healing by stimulating the production of type I collagen. It is also reported that C. asiatica contains bioactive compounds which show anti-inflammatory activities.
