Laurus nobilis is an evergreen shrub native to the Mediterranean and Europe, commonly known as bay laurel, sweet bay, bay tree, or true laurel. Bay laurel is an edible plant, and the leaves are used as a flavoring in cooking. The essential oil of L. nobilis is used for muscle aches and sprains and is a component of the famous ‘Oil of Bays’. The leaves were traditionally used for gastrointestinal disorders.
