Gastrodia elata is a perennial herb found in Korea, Japan, China, Nepal, Bhutan, India, and Siberia. The root of G. elata is a very important traditional medicinal herb in Korea, which is used to treat headache, migraine, dizziness, epilepsy, rheumatism, neuralgia, paralysis, and other disorders. In a recent study, anti-melanogenesis effect of G. elata was newly identified. According to this research study, the extract from G. elata regulated melanogenic enzymes, such as tyrosinase, TRP-1, and TRP-2 in HM3KO melanoma cells.
