Morus alba, known as white mulberry, is native to northern China, and widely cultivated to feed the silkworms throughout the world. This tree has been regarded as valuable due to its numerous utilities. In Traditional Chinese and Korean Medicine, the leaves are taken internally in the treatment of sore throats, colds, eye infections, and nose bleed. The twig is used for combatting excess fluid retention and joint pain. The fruit is useful to prevent premature graying of the hair and to treat dizziness, ringing in the ears, blurred vision and insomnia. Recent scientific studies showed that M. alba was effective in anti-oxidation and melanin inhibition suggesting this medicinal plant might be used as a good natural ingredient for cosmetics.
