Fragaria vesca, wild strawberry, is a perennial herbaceous plant in the rose family that grows naturally throughout the Northern Hemisphere, and that produces edible fruits. It commonly grows in shady areas and is also well-known to have tolerance of mild fire and a bit of dry condition. Its leaves and fruits are significant food resources for many different herbivores and birds who can also be potential distributors of the seeds. F. versa leaves contain phenolic acids, volatile oils, alkaloids, flavonoids, and so forth. A variety of compounds provide a protective action on the skin.
