#guarana #anti-bacterial #immunomodulatory
Paullinia cupana, known as guarana, is native to the Amazon basin and is common in Brazil. The word guarana originates from the Guarani word guara na which means "a fruit like the eyes of the people" because the seed is about the size of a coffee bean and resembles the human eye. Guarana seeds contain higher levels of caffeine than the coffee bean, and the guarana extract is used in soft drinks and energy shots which is becoming increasingly popular in the fitness and diet industry. Some studies have proved the adipogenesis effect and several immunomodulatory factors were positively modulated after treatment with guarana extract. Also, the crude seed extract showed anti-bacterial activity.
