Jasmine is a flowering plant in the family Oleaceae. It contains about 200 species widely cultivated for the characteristic fragrance of flowers and most of them are native to South and Southeast Asia. Jasminum officinale, known as common jasmine is native to Iran, Himalayas and western China. The white flower, which is also the national flower of Pakistan, is known for its intense and sweet scent and calming effects.
Jasmin absolute is known as the “king of oils.” The flowers are used for teas, perfumes and skin care products for its attractive fragrance. Jasmine has been also used medicinally for treatment of hepatitis in China. Recent scientific studies demonstrated that jasmine has anti-bacterial activity against some human pathogenic bacteria and the plant also shows anti-ulcer activity as well as anti-oxidant activity.
