Althaea rosea, commonly called hollyhock, is a popular ornamental plant widely grown in gardens and parks all over the world. Its flowers, leaves, roots, and seeds are used as medicinal herbs, especially in China. In Uyghur, the flowers and roots have been used as traditional medicine, such as an expectorant, cooling, diuretic, and emmenagogue. Also, a decoction of flowers has been used as an anti-inflammatory, febrifuge, demulcent, and astringent agent. Regarding its active ingredients, several investigations revealed that the hollyhock flower contains phenolic acids, cinnamic, coumaric, syringic acids.
