Althaea rosea, also known as Alcea rosea, is a popular ornamental plant widely grown in gardens and parks worldwide. It was used traditionally as expectorant, cooling, diuretic, and emmenagogue. Especially, the roots are astringent and demulcent and are used in the treatment of ulcers. Also, both roots and flowers are used to treat inflammation of kidneys and womb, vaginal and seminal discharge, and the roots are also used to treat loss of appetite.
