Hippophae rhamnoides, commonly known as sea-buckthorn, is the most widespread species in the genus Hippophae. The Latin rhamnoides means resembling buckthorn, as the buckthorns are in a different family. The fruits are edible and nutritious. They have high vitamin C content, and this is why it is sometimes referred as the tree of vitamin. It is traditionally used for treating various diseases such as radiation damage, burns, gastric ulcers and oral inflammation.
