Actinidia polygama, known as silver vine due to the silver/white petiole leaves, grows in the mountainous areas of East Asia. The yellow fruit is approximately 1.5 cm wide and 3-4 cm long and is egg oracorn-shaped with many seeds. The fruit of A. polygama has been used as a traditional medicine in Korea for a long time to treat pain, rheumatic arthritis, kidney disease and inflammation. It has been found that the fruit`s vitamin C content is 10 times higher than the amount in green tea, indicating it maybe a good source of anti-oxidants. Several researches have shown that actinidiamide from the fruit of A. polygama have inhibitory effects on beta-hexosaminidase release and on LPS-stimulated NO production, suggesting that it regulates allergic inflammation.
