Achyranthes japonica is a perennial plant growing 50 to 100 cm tall. It is in flower from July to September, and the seeds ripen from September to October. It is known as cow’s knee in Korean because the stem node of A. japonica looks like a cow’s knee and is widely distributed throughout Korea. A. japonica has been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of diseases caused by knee as it is called such as arthritis and contusion inflammation. It is also applied to relieve muscle cramps or pain in the waist and legs.
