Cladonia stellaris, also known as star reindeer lichen, was collected from northern areas of Finland, near Arctic region with extreme environment. It is an ecologically important species of lichen that forms continuous mats over large areas of the grounds. C. stellaris is growing very slowly in tundra areas and used as a fodder to reindeer and caribou. It is known to contain a variety of bioactive compounds. Lichen-SR extracted from C. stellaris shows anti-oxidant and anti-wrinkle properties.
