Prunus
armeniaca is a small, deciduous, edible tree whose
fruit is commonly called apricot. Apricot is not ubiquitous and grows only in
favorable regions, such as warm temperate regions including Korea, China,
Japan, and Australia. Apricots have been used in folk medicine to soothe
irritated skin, treat eye inflammation, hemorrhages, infertility, and spasm, heal
vaginal infections, and remove phlegm. Apricot fruits are rich in vitamins,
minerals, organic acids, phenolic compounds, and carbohydrates. Apricot is
considered a good source of natural anti-oxidants containing rich
phytochemicals, and also fruits show a wide range of anti-microbial activities.
