Asarum sieboldii is a perennial plant originating and still growing in East Asia. A. sieboldii is identified by its characteristic kidney-shaped leaf and small red flowers, which grow on the axis of the leaf bases. The plant is also called wild ginger because the rhizomes taste and smell like ginger. The root of A. sieboldii has been used as a traditional herbal medicine to treat headaches, colds, asthma, and allergies. Recent scientific research indicated that the roots of A. sieboldii were effective anti-inflammatory agents in inhibiting the synthesis of melanin. Korean research has shown that the extract of A. sieboldii root positively stimulates hair growth.
