Adansonia digitate, commonly called baobab, is native to Africa. The trees are renowned for their longevity, possibly more than 1,100 years. The tree often grows at the site of a water source, the wide trunk storing water in the hot and dry climate. The leaves are dried, powdered, and used in cooking, and the fruit pulp is dried and used in drinks. Baobab leaves, bark, roots, pulp, and seeds are used for medicinal purposes in many parts of Africa and show interesting therapeutic properties, including anti-oxidant, prebiotic-like activity, anti-inflammatory, anti-diarrhea, anti-dysentery activity, and excipient, etc.
