Punica granatum, also called pomegranate, is widely used for culinary and medicinal purposes. In Ayurvedic medicine, pomegranate juice is considered a tonic for the heart and throat. Pomegranate is a rich source of vitamin C, vitamin B5, potassium, and polyphenols. The most abundant polyphenols in the fruit are the tannins called ellagitannins, formed when ellagic acid binds with a carbohydrate. Punicalagins, a form of ellagitannins found in pomegranate, is reported to be the major component responsible for anti-oxidant activity. The beneficial properties of pomegranate were investigated, which include anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, and skin brightening properties. Recently, GNS has found that Beauty Plus One, an extract of pomegranate, shows anti-fatigue and anti-aging effects by strengthening anti-oxidant functions, by recovering mitophagy pathy and by inhibiting apoptotic pathyway.
