Bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) is also known as Seville orange, sour orange, or marmalade orange. The fruits have thick, dimpled skin and are not eaten raw as they are extremely bitter and sour. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, bitter orange activates vital energy and circulation. The peel contains volatile oil with limonene, flavonoids, coumarins, and triterpenes. It contains flavonoids, hesperidin, neohesperidin naringin, tangeretin, and rutin. It was found to have various therapeutic actions on digestion and cardiovascular function and has an anti-cancer effect.
