Nigella sativa, also known as black cumin, is one of the earliest cultivated plants in human history. Medicinally, it has been regarded as an important remedy in the Middle East, commonly called “a cure for every disease except death.” It was traditionally used to treat various diseases, including skin disorders, bronchitis, asthma, diarrhea, and rheumatism. Black cumin seeds are used for culinary purposes as it is popular for their strong flavor in bread and pickles. A recent study reported the anti-microbial activity of N. sativa, which is effective against Staphylococcal skin infections.
