Clitoria ternatea is a perennial vine commonly known as blue pea, butterfly pea, Asian pigeonwings, bluebellvine, cordofan pea, and Darwin pea. Being native to Thailand and Malaysia, the flower has been used as a natural food coloring in those countries. In Malaysia, it has been used to color rice blue, and in Thailand, it has been used in making blue drinks called ‘nam dok anchan’. But mostly, it is commonly enjoyed as a tea with lemongrass. Traditionally, Ayurvedic medicine (traditional Hindi healthcare system) is used for memory enhancement, anti-stress, anti-depressant, and sedatives.
