Nelumbo nucifera, commonly known as “lotus”, is a large aquatic rhizomatous plant. Its root, seed, leaf, and flower are edible and widely consumed as food or tea in East Asia. The lotus flower is a symbol of wealth, and it means the desire for prosperity and longevity of the offspring. It was believed that the white lotus flower, symbolizing the Buddha, freed it from pain and disease. Therefore, lotus is known as a elixir to prevent various diseases. Dried Lotus flower is used as seasoning, oils from Lotus flower are used to make perfumes. Also it has medicinal properties which can reduce blood pressure and relieves diarrhea. Through in vitro efficacy evaluation, anti-oxidant and skin brightening effect of Jeju Lotus Flower Extract were confirmed.
