Daucus carota is commonly called a carrot. The roots are one of the most widely used vegetables with many health benefits, and the seeds are traditionally used for medicinal purposes around the world. The seeds are infused with boiling water to reduce menstrual pain and colic. Also, tea is made from carrot seeds. This medicinal tea is applied topically to treat burns, wrinkles, and sun damage. Essential oil of carrot seeds is also employed for properties such as anti-oxidant, antiseptic, and disinfectant.
According to a scientific article, wound healing activity was promoted in an animal model by applying a cream containing ethanol extract from carrot seeds. Some compounds, including oleic acid and geraniol from carrot seed extract, are responsible for anti-inflammatory activities. In addition, carrot seed extracts have been reported to display anti-oxidant, anti-obesity, and anti-microbial effects.
