Citrus unshiu, commonly known as mandarin or tangerine, is best-known along with the biggest production amount in Jeju Island. It is a sweet, seedless fruit with a thin peel compared to other citrus genera. During the Joseon dynasty (15th to 20th Century), the mandarin was a high valued fruit that only the upper class can eat since the fruits were rare and expensive. The dried peel of C. unshiu has been widely used as an oriental remedy to treat digestion and diuresis in East Asia.
There are many scientific research. Ethanol extract of premature C. unshiu inhibited atopic dermatitis on DNCB-induced AD in vivo by modulating inflammatory cytokines. Nobiletin, a flavonoid from the peel of C. unshiu showed the potential of delaying collagen degradation and anti-inflammatory activity.
