Cinnamomum cassia is commonly called cassia or Chinese cinnamon. It is one of the species of Cinnamomum with an aromatic bark, which is used as a spice. Cinnamomum cassia is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine as one of the 50 fundamental medicinal herbs. It is generally safe when ingested and has many pharmacological properties, such as anti-oxidant and anti-microbial activity. It has a long history of use as a preservative and for medicinal purposes in the East.
