Celosia cristata, a variant of Celosia argentea, is a perennial plant that grows widely as a garden plant. The plant is called cockscomb because the dense wavy dark pink or red-colored flower resembles the shape of the rooster`s combs.
Historically, the cockscomb has been used to treat liver heat and lower blood pressure as folk medicine. Also, people used to take the cockscomb decoction to cure dysentery. In a study, several phytochemical compounds were detected in the extract of C. cristata.
