Gossypium herbaceum, commonly called cotton, is a useful tropical plant. It is well known for its seedpod, mostly used as a textile to make clothes. The cotton plant is used in Unani and Ayurvedic medicines to treat lactation, bronchial asthma, and skin diseases. It is said that the root bark of this plant is utilized as female medication for some female diseases, including menstrual pain. Also, it is used medicinally for nausea, fever, headache, diarrhea, etc. The seeds are edible after being roasted, and the oil obtained from the seeds is used in cooking.
The result of a study reported that hydro alcohol extract of G. herbaceum leaves displayed anti-oxidant activities. This investigation confirmed that it scavenged DPPH radicals and reduced power dose-dependently.
