Bellis perennis, also known as the common daisy or English daisy, is a plant native to Europe and widely naturalized in most temperate regions, including North Africa, North and South Americas, Asia, and Australia. The flower heads and leaves are edible and can be used in salads or soups. They are also used as a medicine due to their healing properties. Traditionally, the plant was used topically on wounds, dermatitis, rash, eczema, and bruises. It can also be used as a gargle remedy for mouth inflammation and sore throat. Infusions of B. perennis were used to tighten and uplift the skin and help firm breast tissue when mothers stopped breastfeeding.
Herbal medicine employs B. perennis as an expectorant, a diuretic, an anti-inflammatory, and a vulnerary. Scientific research has shown that perennisosides, the saponins from B. perennis, enhance collagen synthesis in human dermal fibroblasts. Wound healing activity on animal tissue was verified upon topical administration. Together with the anti-microbial activity of the B. perennis essential oil, these results fully support the cosmetic value of B. perennis.
When GNS tested the efficacy for Daisy Flower Extract, we found that Daisy Flower Extract shows cooling effect by increasing the gene expression of TRPM8 channels, cold-sensing proteins in skin cells. Daisy Flower Extract also increases the influx of calcium ions into the cells, which eventually leads to feel a cooling sensation through signal transduction.
