Dicentra spectabilis, also known as Lamprocapnos spectabilis, is a species native to Korea, China, Japan, and Siberia. It is valued in gardens and floristry for its heart-shaped pink and white flowers, borne in spring.
Traditionally, D.spectabilis is used to treat bruises and abscesses. There are few scientific researches conducted on this plant, and one preliminary study indicated that the extracts of D. spectabilis suppressed the UVA-induced expression of MMP-1, one type of collagenase, suggesting D. spectabilis as the potential raw materials for anti-aging cosmetic products.
