Ulmus davidiana is a deciduous tree distributed in East Asian countries where the root and stem bark are frequently used in infusions. Small light green flowers are in bloom from March to May. The fruits, leaves, and bark are all edible. In folk medicine, the fruit and young stems treat abscesses. The root and stem barks of U. davidiana, which contain mucilage, flavonoids, and saponins, have been traditionally used as an oriental herbal medicine to treat edema gastric cancer, gastric ulcer, abscesses, mastitis, and skin inflammation. The bioactive compounds from U. davidiana have been reported to have various pharmacological activities, such as neuroprotective effects, anti-tumor activity, anti-inflammatory activity, anti-diabetic activity, and anti-oxidant activity.
