Trigonella foenum-graecum, commonly known as fenugreek, is an annual spice widely used in Asia, North Africa, and the Mediterranean. The seeds of fenugreek are used in India and South Asian countries as a spice for dishes due to their strong flavor. The seeds are also a traditional remedy for treating diabetes, arthritis, asthma, wounds, sore throat, and skin problems. Fenugreek has been reported to exhibit various biological activities, including anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-oxidant, and gastroprotective activities.
Pharmacological studies have shown that the extract exhibits immunomodulatory, anti-diabetic, and cholesterol-lowering effects. In Ayurvedic medicine, fenugreek is generally used to treat allergic and inflammatory diseases.
