Fortunella margarita is an evergreen shrub that is native to South Asia and Asia-Pacific. It is called Oval

Kumquat or Nagami Kumquat, as its fruit looks like a small oval orange. The oval kumquat has very

fragrant white flowers and glossy dark green leaves. It has been widely consumed as jam and pickle as

well as fruits. Usually, the fruits are eaten whole, unlike other fruits, the peel has a very sweet flavor,

but the inside is sourer. Also, much more vitamin C is contained in the peel than the flesh. Besides

vitamin C, kumquats are rich in galactan and flavonoid. In China, the local people enjoyed salted

kumquat powder as a tea for their throat health. According to the studies, the extract of F. margarita has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

In several studies, it is identified that Fortunella margarita contained polyphenols and had potential anti-oxidant characteristics. There were a positive relationship existed between total phenolic content and DPPH scavenging potency.
