Magnolia officinalis is commonly called spice magnolia or `hou pu` in Chinese. The plant is native to China, and the tree`s bark has been used for treating various diseases as Traditional Chinese Medicine. Historically, the bark has been used to promote sleep and relaxation, ease anxiety, and treat allergies and asthma. Some studies found that magnolia bark has a property for reducing stress in recent times. This aromatic bark is known for containing honokiol and magnolol as active compounds, showing anti-anxiety and anti-angiogenic properties. In a study especially, magnolol isolated from magnolia bark indicated anti-oxidant property about 1,000 times greater than vitamin E.
