Psidium guajava is a small, evergreen tree widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions around the world for its fruits. The whole fruit is edible with acid to sweet taste. It is sometimes referred to as “superfruit” due to its high antioxidant capacity. In China, leaves are used to treat diabetes and diarrhea, and in India, it was used for rheumatism and febrifuge. In South American countries, leaves are used as an anti inflammatory agent.
In scientific researches, P guajava has been reported to have anti-plasmodial, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, anti-cancer, anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, and anti-glycation activities.
