Spiraea ulmaria (synonym of Filipendula ulmaria) is a perennial plant growing in damp marshy ground throughout Europe, central Asia and areas of North America. Meadowsweet was one of the three herbs held most sacred by the Druids. Meadowsweet is used Western Herbal Medicine to soothe and heal gastric mucosa. It reduces gastric acidity, is used to ease children diarrhoea and has anti-inflammatory properties. It is used to treat arthritis and joint inflammation, and urinary tract problems.
