Melia azedarach, commonly called chinaberry tree, bead tree, or white cedar, is native to southeastern Asia. This deciduous tree is easily seen through Bangladesh to Australia. Each part of this plant is well known for the medicinal properties and is used to treat skin diseases and others. The use of fruit requires high attention due to its toxicity. Its scientific name M. azedarach came from the greek word melia meaning flowering ash and azedarach, meaning ancient poisonous tree which is Azadaracht.
Some studies have revealed chinaberry fruit`s significant anti-bacterial effect. In a test result, the aqueous and alcohol extract of chinaberry fruit inhibited bacterial strains such as Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus, Proteus, and Klebsiella. Another study reported the cytotoxic activity of the active compound named limonoid from the chinaberry.
