Rosa multiflora is a thorny, perennial shrub known as multiflora rose or Japanese rose, and is native to East Asia. It is in flower from June to July, and the fruits ripen from August to October. The fruit is anodyne, diuretic, hypoglycaemic, and laxative. It is used to treat constipation and joint pain and as an application to poorly healing ulcers, wounds, sprains, and injuries. The fruit is a very rich source of vitamins and minerals, especially in vitamins A, C and E, flavonoids, and other bio-active compounds. The fruit of Rosa multiflora has been traditionally used as a herbal remedy for the treatment of inflammation, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic pain. Scientific results also showed its anti-inflammatory activities.
