Moringa oleifera, also commonly called moringa or drumstick tree, is a fast-growing deciduous tree mainly grown in tropical and subtropical areas in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal, where it is used as a food as well as folk medicine. he seeds have attracted scientific interest as Moringa oleifera seed kernels contain a significant amount of oil with a high-quality fatty acid composition and, after refining, a notable resistance to oxidative degradation.
Several studies have found good anti-oxidant activity and have isolated phytochemical compounds that, because of their biological properties, can be used as nutraceutical molecules. So, the seeds can be good anti-oxidants, able to reduce oxidative damage associated with aging. Also, one study reported that M. oleifera seeds possess anti-inflammatory as well due to abundant phenolic acids and flavonoids. Furthermore, the seed extract has been found to possess good anti-microbial activity against numerous bacterial and fungal species. Many of the phytochemical compounds isolated from the seeds inhibit the growth of certain pathogenic microorganisms responsible for human infections.
