Mentha arvensis, commonly called field mint, wild mint, or corn mint, is a herbaceous perennial plant generally growing to 10~60 cm tall. The leaves of M. arvensis have a reasonably strong minty flavor with a slight bitterness, and they are used as a flavoring in salads or cooked foods and used for teas.
M. arvensis is often used as a domestic herbal remedy, being valued especially for anti-septic properties and its beneficial effect on digestion. A tea made from the leaves has traditionally been used to treat fevers, headaches, digestive disorders, and various minor ailments. It is also used as an insect repellent. Menthol, a main active compound of M. arvensis, is studied to show an analgesic property. Menthone, limonene, and pinenes are also found in the wild mint leaves.
